Need Them Now! The Best Fall Earring Trends
While I try not to play favorites with my jewelry, I must admit that I have a soft spot for earrings. What’s not to love – from the tiniest studs to the longest shoulder dusters, there are earrings to match every style, haircut, and face shape. When I’m looking to update my jewelry box, I usually find myself grabbing a pair of earrings (or two) that will help refresh basic looks with a trendy edge.
If you’re looking to add to your jewelry wardrobe for fall, the Fall/Winter fashion shows are a great place to revisit for inspiration. A variety of bold and avant-garde jewelry went down the runway, and (perhaps unsurprisingly) most of my favorite pieces were earrings. Here are some of my favorite ideas for staying on trend while also making striking Designer looks approachable for everyday wear:
Chunky hoops. Every woman should have a great pair of basic hoops in her jewelry wardrobe – they’re perhaps the most versatile earring you can own. If you want to expand your options, take some inspiration from Alexander McQueen and Michael Kors and go big and chunky. These hoops add a bit of an edge to a run-of-the-mill casual look.
Asymmetrical designs. This trend has been around for a few seasons, and was still going strong on runways from Balenciaga to Maison Margiela. My favorite thing about this trend: no need to spend money on new earrings! Just play around and pair your earrings into unexpected combinations. For a truly chic look, try a sideswept hairstyle to show off a big statement earring paired with a tiny stud.
Chandeliers. Who doesn’t love chandelier earrings? This one accessory can totally transform a look from basic to brilliant. Celine and Miu Miu both featured sparkly 1970s throwback designs, but I prefer something lighter (and more comfortable) to pair with jeans and a tailored leather jacket.
Crystal Points. Boho lovers rejoice! These earrings are earthy, funky, and, best of all, flattering! A thin crystal stone can elongate the neck and looks very dramatic with a braid, bun, or ponytail.
Cocktail earrings. I’ve long been a fan of the cocktail earring. These chunky, often gemstone-encrusted designs always remind me of the elegance and glamour of Elizabeth Taylor. This season’s cocktail earrings are equal parts Golden Age Of Hollywood and 1980s Decadence. Keep a pair in your purse for emergency day-to-evening transformations (last minute drinks after work?).
What’s your favorite type of jewelry? Bold bracelets? Simple pendants? Stacker rings? How will you incorporate fall jewelry trends into your jewelry box?
